#TBBwatch ‘The Crown’ an Ode to Natural Hair by Mina West

the_Crown_mina_westMina West is an upcoming spoken word poet from North London, UK. Most popular poem “Let’s be Honest” which tackles sex before marriage from a Christian perspective. Her body of work travels through themes of relationships, family and spirituality.

Mina West’s latest spoken word piece The Crown aims to challenge this misconception, celebrate our natural hair and empower black females to rock what is rightfully theirs.

The synopsis reads:

It’s fair to say there has been significant growth within the natural hair community, with the support of natural hair bloggers, more people embracing it and it gaining popularity in the media. With this being said, there are still people who feel it is not a suitable style for everyone, and neglect to see the beauty and uniqueness of natural afro hair. Causing the black female community to hold the stigma that it needs the aid of weaves and relaxers, clutching onto the westernised view of beauty.
