GO TO Ancestral Voices Book Launch @ SOAS 6th & 7th October 2016
Decolonising Our Minds are pleased to host Ancestral Voices to celebrate their new release in the documentary series celebrating and assessing the rich and often overlooked history of African cosmologies and spiritual and religious traditions. Ancestral Voices have organised a fantastic event which will take place over two days at SOAS, 6th and 7th October, starting at 6:30pm and finishing at 9pm on both days.
The launch for the book “Ancestral Voices: Spirit is Eternal” is the culmination of over 5 years of intensive research into African spirituality across millenia to contemporary times, from the Ancient Black Egyptians to the Zulus as well as the legacy in the diaspora.
It is a journey that took the producers to South Africa, Haiti, Brasil and the USA to interview a range of scholars and traditional priests. The book is a companion to the upcoming film due for release in Summer 2017, and contains information that had to be omitted from the film due to the editing process and time limitations as well as information from the extensive literature research conducted.
Each evening will host a panel of speakers, scholars and initiates, presenting varied information on different aspects of African spirituality to set the stage for an enlightening and informative discussion to be had with the audience.
There will be a book signing as well afterwards and also the opportunity to obtain some of the works of the panel members as well. The panel will include, amongst others, Robin Walker, Dr. Kofi Bempah, Sister Kesheni, Sister Ama Gueye and Dalian Adofo.
Here is the schedule for the two days:
- Host/chair – Nathan R. Edwards
- Panelists: Dr Bempah | Sister Ama | Sister Kesheni | Dalian Adofo
